What do the UNIAID Student Calculators do?

The UNIAID Student Calculators help you to build a lifestyle budget by working out your likely income and expenditure over a year. You can;

  • Build your budget and see how it balances by week, month and year
  • Understand how your lifestyle decisions affect your time as well as money
  • Save your budget so you can use it before and during your course and log in at any time
  • Calculate what financial support you may receive and pay back
  • Read top tips about saving money
  • Read other student profiles and explore their budgets

Prospective students, from 16 years and students in higher education.

Which version of the UNIAID Student Calculator is right for me?

All versions enable you to build a lifestyle budget, but the tips, information and student profiles are slightly different in each so it's a good idea to pick the version that's best for you;

  • The UNIAID Student Calculator aims to help UK undergraduate students studying in England. (Although many features can be used if you are studying in Scotland or Wales)
  • International Student Calculator is for International students coming to, or studying in, the UK
  • Healthcare calculator aims to help prospective students who are planning to study Medical Science, Veterinary Science or Dentistry.

What other versions will be developed?

UNIAID aims to develop new versions of the calculator to suit different students. These include; Law students, Part-time students, Postgraduate students, students in Wales and Scotland. Who has developed the UNIAID Student Calculator?

UNIAID is an independent charity which aims to help students cope with financial hurdles to higher education by providing online tools, teaching resources and training and accommodation bursaries. UNIAID works with students and university advisers as well as expert partners to put these tools together. These partners are; Aimhigher, University of Teesside, the National Union of Students, UK Council for International Student Affairs, The Brightside Trust. The tools have been funded by: Aimhigher, the Prime Minister's Initiative, St.Georges University.

I work for a university, how can I use the calculator with my students?

  • Add a link on your own website or in materials. More info here
  • License and adapt the tool for your own website so that it includes your costs, financial support and case studies. More info here

I work in a school, how can I use this to cover student finance with my students?

  • Add a link on your website or promote the sites to your students
  • UNIAID provides teaching resources for workshops with years 9-13. The resources are linked in with National Curriculum for Maths, CEG and PSHE and have the Quality Mark from the Personal Finance Education Group. See; www.uniaidinteractive.org.uk

  • UNIAID Interactive - Resources and training to teach student finance

UNIAID Interactive provides resources and training to enable university outreach staff, teachers, student ambassadors and advisers to deliver fun and engaging workshops around student finance. UNIAID Workshops

UNIAID delivers interactive workshops for students to help them prepare for the financial side of higher education. These can fit into summer schools, induction, outreach or schools. More info, call the team on 020 7922 7790

Foyer-UNIAID Accommodation Bursaries
