Are you prepared? Make sure you're covered by insurance just in case.

What do you need to think about to stay safe?

Contents insurance covers the value of your possessions in your student house or halls, in case they get damaged or stolen. Imagine how much you would spend if you had to replace everything: your laptop, phone, clothes and books. It's cheaper to buy insurance!

If you’re travelling abroad you should get travel insurance and remember to budget for car insurance if you drive.

As a student you may be entitled to full or partial exemption from some health costs like prescriptions, dental treatment, opticians. You need to complete a HC1 form which is available from your student services, student union or any doctors or dentists surgery.

Useful info

  • Warning. Thieves target students. Think how much it would cost you to replace all your CDs, clothes and possessions. Insurance is worth it to cover this.
  • Check with your folks to see whether their household insurance will cover you whilst you're away at Uni.
  • Some halls may offer insurance as part of your rent. Check options and make sure you're covered!
  • Remember to read the small print.
  • You can register property (like laptops, phones, bikes) on the National Property register which will increase the chances of it being recovered if it’s stolen. Click here
  • You can pay for insurance for a year, or pay every month by Direct Debit.
