How to use the UNIAID Student Calculator

This website is designed to help dentistry, medical and veterinary students to plan and manage their money for university.
Your aim is to enter your income and expenditure so that you build your budget.

How to build your budget

Step 1

Click on Income to start. Enter your income into each section; Loans and Grants, Bursaries and Scholarships, Savings, Employment, Family, Friends and Other.

You can click on the sections and work your way through these in any order, or you can use the back and next Buttons. Read the guidance at the top of each page and use the sliders to select the amount of money or time that you wish to enter. Alternatively, you can type your amount in the box.

Step 2

Click on Expenditure. Work your way through the sections on the left hand side, from Fees to Study.

Step 3

Click on your balance. This shows your budget summary for one year - how you have spent your time and money. If it doesn't add up, click Edit your budget and go back and change your decisions.

Things to look out for to help you build your budget

• The Useful Info sections show information that can help with your budget decisions

• The links will show you extra pages with advice and information.

How to monitor your budget

• Use the progress box on the right hand side of the screen to see how you are getting on. The Visited Pages' circles shows you how many pages you have completed. You can click on the circles to visit the pages that haven't been filled in yet.

• The 'Your Money' bars show how much income and expenditure you have entered. These change each time you enter a new amount as well as show you your annual balance.

• You can see how much time you have spent and how much you've got left by looking at the 'Your Hours' bars.

• You can get a more detailed annual balance by clicking onto the Balance Page.

How to save and log in

You can save your budget at any time by clicking the Save button. You will be asked for an email address and password.

To return to your budget, click 'Log in' on the homepage and enter your details.

Student Profiles

Click on the Student Profiles bar to view UNIAID's student case studies. There are twelve profiles to choose from, each giving their top tips and comments about their university experience. By looking at their budget summary, you can see how what money they had and how much they spend.
