Could you get any extra financial help?

It's worth doing your research to find out what you could get!

On top of the main student finance support, you may be eligible for help from other funds from government, your university or other sources.

If you know what you may receive, enter the amounts with the sliders below. Click on the information icons for more information on each one.

University bursaries -
Extra support you don't pay back

All universities provide bursaries, but they vary greatly so it's worth doing your research. If you start university in 2010/11 and receive a full maintenance grant, you will get at least the maximum bursary of £329 for the year, but you may get more. Check your university website about what is available and how to apply - don't be scared of asking! Or check the Directgov website for more info.

Scholarships

Many universities provide scholarships for academic achievement and certain subjects. They are competitive and you often need to apply early, but do your research and ask – it may pay off! Some charitable trusts and companies also offer support to students with specific individual circumstances.
