About John Leggott College

  • JLC is a government funded sixth form college for 2300 (5% international) pre-university students aged 16-19.
  • There are currently 120 international students from 8 countries including China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Pakistan and Vietnam.
  • All international students study advanced level courses

Wide Course Choice and Excellent Results

  • Pre-course English can be arranged with our partner English language school in York.
  •  We offer more than 40 subject choices at A-level as well as other advanced level courses including BTEC and Diploma.
  • International students are taught in the same classes as home students, by experienced tutors and in small groups of around 15-20.
  • All international students are offered IELTS English lessons at no extra charge.
  • JLC has a huge range of extra curricular activities including music and sport.
  • Our International students achieved excellent A-level grades in 2009 with an overall pass rate of 98% with 83% A and B grades.

Facilities

  • The college has more than 850 computers for students use and Wi-Fi is available across the campus.
  • Specialist facilities including resource areas and a science centre of excellence.
  • Well stocked library, dance studio, IT centre, art and design studio and cyber-cafe
  • We have a university and careers advice centre and medical centre

Award Winning International Student Support

  • Dedicated international centre with International Accommodation and Welfare Officer on 24 hour call.
  • Each student has a personal tutor and subject mentors are available.
  • The college has a chaplain and other counsellors.
  • International staff regularly make overseas visits to meet parents
  • John Leggott College was awarded with an AoC Beacon Award in 2002 ‘The British Council Award for International Student Support’. In 2009 the International Centre was once again shortlisted for the Award.

Host Family Accommodation

  • Accommodation for international students is with local host families arranged by the college. All homes are inspected and families are police checked.
  • International students’ English language skills and cultural knowledge significantly improve by staying with a host family.

Perfect Location

  • The town of Scunthorpe is small, safe, friendly and inexpensive. There are excellent transport links including a local airport and cross-country rail service.

Making Applications

  • JLC offers high quality, affordable education and over 650 students progress to top universities every year including Oxford, Cambridge, LSE, Imperial and Warwick.
  • We welcome applications from students with good school marks and good English language skills. Courses begin in September.

UNIAID will be pleased to bring you news of research, products, services or promotions which are either created by us or which we think will be of relevance and interest using the information you have supplied.

Our communications will cover topical news. Additionally we work with a small number of 'carefully selected partners' to negotiate and communicate promotions. These promotions align with UNIAID's Mission to help young people overcome financial hurdles to higher education. These hurdles can include any essential or relevant cost: accommodation, books and equipment, clothes, travel, leisure, insurance etc.. UNIAID aims to help people overcome these hurdles by brokering discounts and offers to students. There will be no more than one communication per month to subscribers.
